This Cookie Policy explains which cookies the MERICS App (app.merics.com) uses, why and for how long, and how we measure the use of the App without cookies.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies, such as the browser’s local storage, work the same way. We use the word “cookies” for both in this policy.
2. Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies are required for the App to work. They are set without your consent and cannot be switched off in the App; you can block them in your browser, but some parts of the App will then stop working.

The App also uses your browser’s local storage to remember your display mode (light or dark), the progress of a quote you have started, and the continuity of your conversation with our team in the chat. This information stays on your device.
3. Usage statistics without cookies
We do not use Google Analytics or any other third-party analytics or advertising cookies. To understand how the App is used and to improve it, our own servers record the pages you open, the time spent on them, the links you follow inside the App, the type of device, operating system and browser, the language of your browser and the country derived from your IP address. No cookie is set and nothing is stored on your device for this purpose.
Visits are counted with a daily identifier computed from your IP address and browser, which changes every day and cannot be used to recognise you from one day to the next. Your IP address is deleted once the country has been determined. These data are kept for 180 days on our servers and copied to our reporting environment hosted on Google Cloud, where they are only used to produce statistics. If you are signed in, they are linked to your account. Country data: IP geolocation by DB-IP.
4. Third-party services
When you pay online or sign in with Apple or Google, you are taken to the pages of our payment providers or of Apple or Google. These services may set their own cookies on their own websites, under their own policies. MERICS does not control these cookies.
5. Managing cookies
The cookies we use are strictly necessary, so there is no choice to make in the App. You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings, but some parts of the App, such as staying signed in, will then stop working.
6. Changes and contact
